About the lab

Curiosity got
a bit out of hand.

I'm Jon. RizoHomeLab is my personal space for building, operating and understanding systems.

Why all this hardware?

Because building something useful teaches you things a specification sheet never will. The rack brings together virtualisation, storage, networks and public hosting. The energy project adds measurement and control. Local AI adds an entirely different set of failure modes.

This is an enthusiast's engineering notebook. It covers decisions, trade-offs and lessons, including the bits that did not work the first time.

The rules I try to keep

  • Understand the failure domains before trusting the redundancy.
  • Keep a recovery path before making a production change.
  • Separate what is installed from what has been demonstrated.
  • Write down enough that future me has a fighting chance.
